How to set up IPTV on Apple TV, iPhone, iPad and Mac
Apple's ecosystem gives you the most polished playback of any platform: the Apple TV 4K has an excellent hardware decoder, tvOS is fast, and the remote is genuinely pleasant to navigate a guide with. The trade-off is app choice — Apple's review guidelines mean there are fewer IPTV players on tvOS than on Android, and the good ones are paid. Once you are set up, though, it is the most stable experience we support.

Quick answer
How do I set up IPTV on Apple TV & iPhone?
To set up DrexTV on Apple TV, install an IPTV player from the tvOS App Store — iPlayTV, Smarters Player Lite or GSE Smart IPTV — then log in with the Xtream Codes username, password and server URL from your DrexTV activation email. The same apps are available on iPhone and iPad from the iOS App Store, and settings sync through iCloud.

5 steps
Setting up DrexTV on Apple TV & iPhone
Follow these in order. Menu paths are given exactly as they appear on the device, and the whole sequence takes about 4 minutes.
Step 1: Install a player from the App Store
On Apple TV, open the App Store from the home screen and use the search tab. Type iPlayTV for the best paid experience, or Smarters Player Lite to start free. Install it.
If you also want DrexTV on your iPhone or iPad, install the same app there. Most of these players are universal purchases, so buying once on one Apple device unlocks it on the others under the same Apple Account.
Step 2: Add your DrexTV account with Xtream Codes
Open the app and choose Add Playlist, Add Provider or the plus icon depending on which player you installed. Select the Xtream Codes option rather than M3U.
Enter the username, password and server URL from your activation email. The server URL includes a port after a colon; include it exactly.
The single best trick on Apple TV: when the text field is focused, your iPhone shows a keyboard notification. Tap it and type on the phone instead of using the on-screen remote keyboard. It turns a two-minute job into a fifteen-second one.
Step 3: Let the guide sync
The app authenticates and begins downloading the channel list and the seven-day guide. On a first sync this takes 20 to 60 seconds because it is pulling data for 24,000 channels — later launches are near-instant since the guide is cached.
When it finishes you should see channels grouped by country and category, with programme information against each one. If the guide is blank, force a refresh from the app's settings.
Step 4: Set the Apple TV video output correctly
Go to Settings, Video and Audio on the Apple TV. Set Format to 4K SDR 60Hz, or 4K Dolby Vision if your television supports it.
Then turn on Match Dynamic Range and Match Frame Rate. This matters for live sport: a 50fps European broadcast played on a fixed 60Hz output shows visible judder, and Match Frame Rate eliminates it by switching the output to match the source.
Step 5: Build a favourites list
Add your regular channels to favourites. In iPlayTV this is a long-press on the channel; in Smarters it is the heart icon.
Then hide unused groups in the app's settings. With 24,000 channels available, a curated list of twenty is the difference between a television that feels premium and one that feels overwhelming.
Worth knowing
Apple TV & iPhone tips that make a real difference
These are the things we tell subscribers after setup, and they account for most of the gap between a service that feels adequate and one that feels premium.
Type with your iPhone, not the remote
When an Apple TV text field is active, a keyboard notification appears on any nearby iPhone signed into the same Apple Account. Tap it and type there. This single habit eliminates the most common cause of failed logins.
Match Frame Rate matters more than resolution
European sport is broadcast at 50fps and American sport at 60fps. Without Match Frame Rate enabled, one of the two will always judder on panning shots. Enabling it is a bigger visible improvement than moving from 1080p to 4K.
Apple TV 4K supports Ethernet, use it
The 128 GB Apple TV 4K includes a Gigabit Ethernet port. Wiring it removes Wi-Fi variance entirely, which is the main cause of mid-match buffering on an otherwise fast connection.
Paid tvOS players are worth it here
Unlike Android, where the best free players are excellent, tvOS free options are noticeably rougher. iPlayTV is a single low-cost purchase that covers Apple TV, iPhone and iPad, and the difference in guide speed is immediately obvious.

If something goes wrong
The five most common Apple TV & iPhone problems
Ordered by how often we actually see them, with the fix rather than a generic suggestion to restart.
| Problem | How to fix it |
|---|---|
| The player I want is not in the tvOS App Store | App availability varies by App Store region and apps are occasionally pulled during review. Try the alternatives listed above. If none are available in your region, an Apple TV cannot sideload, so a $40 Android TV device on another HDMI port is the practical workaround. |
| Live sport judders on panning shots | Match Frame Rate is off. Go to Settings, Video and Audio and enable both Match Dynamic Range and Match Frame Rate. This is the fix for the great majority of Apple TV picture complaints. |
| Guide loads but channels will not play | Your credentials authenticated, so this is a playback-format issue rather than an account problem. Switch the player's stream format from HLS to MPEG-TS, or the reverse, in its playback settings. |
| App drops the stream when the iPhone locks | On iOS, enable background audio in the player's settings if it offers it, and disable Low Power Mode. iOS suspends network activity for backgrounded apps in Low Power Mode. |
| AirPlay from iPhone to Apple TV stutters | AirPlay re-encodes the stream and adds a hop, which doubles the bandwidth requirement. Install the player directly on the Apple TV rather than mirroring — playback quality is substantially better. |
