Features, and why each one matters
Each entry explains the mechanism rather than just naming the feature, because the mechanism is what determines whether it holds up under load.
Anti-freeze load balancing
If the edge you are connected to degrades, your session moves to a healthy one mid-stream instead of freezing.
Every channel is published to multiple edge servers simultaneously. A health monitor samples each edge continuously for packet loss, latency and segment-delivery time, and when a server drifts outside tolerance your session is reassigned to the next-best edge without restarting playback. What you notice is at most a momentary quality change; what you do not notice is the failure. This is the mechanism that keeps a stream alive through the peak-fixture congestion that causes visible freezing on single-server providers.
True 4K at up to 22 Mbps
4K UHD, 1080p FHD, 720p HD and SD, with adaptive bitrate so the picture matches your line rather than breaking on it.
We publish four rungs for most channels — 4K UHD, 1080p Full HD, 720p HD and SD — encoded at 2 Mbps to 22 Mbps adaptive. The player negotiates the highest rung your connection and screen can sustain, and steps down gracefully rather than stalling if throughput dips. Around 420 channels are dedicated 4K feeds, and HDR grading is passed through untouched where the source carries it. Sport is encoded at the source frame rate, so 50fps European broadcasts stay 50fps instead of being converted and introducing judder.

A complete, timezone-aware electronic programme guide, not a channel list with placeholder titles.
A 7-day forward guide covers the great majority of the line-up, and it resolves the correct local schedule per timezone. That last detail matters more than it sounds: in the United States and Canada, a guide built on a single offset shows the wrong programme for most of the country, and it is one of the fastest ways to identify a low-effort provider. Ours handles all four continental United States zones and all six Canadian zones, including the Newfoundland half-hour offset, and switches to the Ramadan grid for Arabic channels.
7-day catch-up TV
Scroll the guide backwards and play anything from the past week directly, with no recording set up in advance.
Catch-up is available on supported channels for 7 days. You scroll back through the guide and play a programme that has already aired — no scheduling, no local storage, no recording conflict. In practice this replaces recording entirely for most households, because the thing you forgot to record is still sitting there in the guide.
Sub-two-second channel changes
Short segment lengths and warm edges make browsing feel like a set-top box rather than a web player.
Channel-change time is the single most underrated quality signal in internet television, and it is where cheap providers feel cheap. We keep HLS segment durations short, pre-warm the most-watched channels on each edge, and terminate connections geographically close to subscribers — most European and North American users connect to an edge within about 30 milliseconds. The result is a channel change that completes in under two seconds on a wired connection.

How the network is actually built
Streaming quality is decided by network topology far more than by encoder settings. This is the part of the service you cannot see, and it is the part that determines whether a pay-per-view night works.
14 edge locations
The majority sit in Europe and North America, where the majority of our subscribers are. Most connect to an edge within about 30 milliseconds of their line, which is the single biggest determinant of how fast a channel change feels.
3× peak headroom
Capacity is dimensioned against roughly three times average concurrency rather than average load. Streaming failures are almost never a bandwidth problem in absolute terms — they are a contention problem at peak, and headroom is the only real fix.
Continuous edge health sampling
Each edge is sampled continuously for packet loss, latency and segment-delivery time. When one drifts outside tolerance, active sessions are reassigned rather than left to degrade, which is what anti-freeze actually means in practice.
Short segments, warm channels
HLS segment durations are kept short and the most-watched channels are pre-warmed on every edge. Long segments look better on a bandwidth chart and feel far worse when you are flicking through a guide.
Source-frame-rate encoding
European broadcasts are 50fps and North American ones 60fps. We encode at the source rate instead of normalising everything to one, because frame-rate conversion is what produces the judder you see on panning shots during live sport.
Multi-rung adaptive bitrate
Four quality rungs per channel at 2 Mbps to 22 Mbps adaptive. The player steps down gracefully when throughput dips instead of stalling, so a temporary Wi-Fi dip costs you a moment of softness rather than thirty seconds of buffering.

What internet speed you need, per stream
The recommended figure includes headroom for other household traffic. All values are per simultaneous stream, so double them for a two-connection plan running two streams at once.

The number that matters is not your speed-test result, it is your sustained throughput during the evening peak. A line that bursts to 300 Mbps at 10am and drops below 20 Mbps at 9pm will buffer during exactly the fixtures you care about, whereas a steady 40 Mbps connection will not.
If you have a choice between paying for more headline bandwidth and running an Ethernet cable to your streaming device, take the cable. Wi-Fi is responsible for the clear majority of buffering reports we investigate, and no amount of extra bandwidth fixes a weak 2.4 GHz signal through two internal walls. Choose Xtream Codes wherever your player supports it. It is a short username and password rather than a hundred-character URL, which matters enormously when you are typing on a television remote, and it exposes the programme guide, catch-up and the on-demand library that a plain M3U playlist cannot.
Use M3U only where you have to — VLC on a desktop, or an older player without Xtream support. Use the Stalker portal for MAG hardware, which does not run apps at all and authenticates by MAC address instead. The MAG guide covers that in detail.
